Ladies in Retford take on a new challenge

Retford Golf Club recently introduced an opportunity for women to get into golf.

Following a local survey, the Club discovered that some ladies had often thought of taking up the game but didn’t want to join a golf club before finding out if the sport was for them. They wondered how to take the first step.

Retford Golf Club therefore introduced some taster sessions specifically aimed at women. These sessions were led by James Freeman, the PGA Golf Professional at the Club, and local ladies took up the opportunity to attend these sessions.

There was no pressure for the ladies to join the Club, but the sessions clearly helped them to think about taking up golf. It was recognised that the cost of joining a golf club is also a consideration in taking up the sport and so Retford Golf Club has introduced a reduced two-year membership for ladies. This opportunity has proved to be very attractive.

This initiative has proved so successful in attracting women into golf, that the Club is going to introduce a second series of taster sessions, again led by James Freeman, starting on Saturday 20th April at 4.00pm. If any ladies are interested, all they have to do is turn up!

In Club news, Retford Golf Club welcomed representatives from Breast Cancer Now and Weston Park Cancer Charity in March to handover funds raised during the 2023 season.

2023 Lady Captain Anna Avery and Gents Captain David Halford would like to thank the Club members for all their help and generous contributions that have helped raise a fantastic total of £8,000, to be split equally between the two charities.

Darren Hayes and Lauren Bingham explained the work the charities undertake and thanked the Club for their contributions.
