Retford u3a is open and ready to welcome anyone who is no longer in full-time work. It marks the beginning of a new chapter filled with exploration, learning and laughter. Whether seeking engaging activities, interesting places to visit, or lively discussions on current affairs, members will find a wide variety of opportunities. Perhaps you’re looking to improve your photography skills or explore your artistic side – Retford u3a has something for everyone.

The organisation brings together like-minded individuals to collaborate, share knowledge, pursue hobbies and develop lasting friendships. All are invited to explore what’s on offer. The monthly meeting at The Well in Retford is the perfect starting point. Visitors are welcome to attend a meeting free of charge, where they can meet current members, talk to group leaders and committee members, and hear from a professional speaker. The next meeting will be held on Thursday 28th August at 1.30pm, with guest speaker Sam Millard presenting ‘A History Mystery – Where Have I Heard That Before’.

Recent activities have included a walk through the Welbeck Estate and surrounding countryside, with plans underway for a group trip to Stamford. The Photography Group has been out and about capturing images for the latest challenge: Transportation of Any Kind. Meanwhile, the Gardening Group visited Winterbourne House and Garden. This seven-acre Edwardian ‘villa’ garden offered a peaceful and informative day out, complete with a visit to the historic house and tearoom.

To mark the organisation’s 15-year anniversary, members enjoyed an afternoon celebration at the West Retford Hotel with strawberries, Pimm’s and live music by the Worksop u3a Swing Band. A special highlight was the announcement that member Pat Trotter had been awarded the British Empire Medal – a remarkable achievement and source of pride for the group. For those seeking new experiences, connections and opportunities to learn, Retford u3a offers a warm and friendly community.
