It’s time to go Open Source for all your computer apps!

Do you want — or need — alternatives to the increasingly expensive applications (‘apps’ to us nerds!) that are often pushed at us when purchasing new computers? The open-source movement has a vast range of apps covering every possible computing need — and all are free to you!

Popular examples include The Document Foundation’s Libre Office, which is a real alternative to Microsoft’s Office and can both read and write Microsoft Office files if you need that feature. Gimp is a real alternative to Adobe’s Photoshop CC if you want a powerful image editing package that can handle everything from basic photo editing right through to multi-layer creations and even animations. For even more opportunities, why not explore Audacity, the sound editing resource, or E-publishing through Libre Office? The open source world is open to you!

Clarborough and Welham IT Group has extensive experience of some of the huge range of open-source applications that can power-up laptops and PCs to specifications that match (and interface with) Microsoft’s standard and beyond and all for no cost at all. So why not go along and get LibreOffice and Gimp together with a range of web browser and security applications free?

If you’d like to play with one of the group’s Windows 10 laptops, or take your own, to get to grips with Windows 10 in a supportive (and sometimes off-the-wall) environment, get in touch. Classes run in Clarborough Village Hall on Tuesdays (from 1.30pm to 3.00pm) or Wednesdays (from 10.00am to 11.30am) with their spring 2020 five-week ‘block’ of classes which continues week commencing 24th February at just £20.00 for the whole block.

For more information or to book your place, contact Greg on 01777 700918 or email clarboroughwelham@gmail.com. Their website (www.cwitgroup.btck.co.uk) has class dates through to July 2021 in the Calendar section.
