Members of the Inner Wheel Club of Retford, Carol Lawrenson and Heather Reed, recently braved yet another rainy day to raise funds for the international work of Inner Wheel. Running a market stall is just one way, that members have to help provide funds for the ‘Baby Bundles’ and ‘Joy and Toy Bags’ which the club sends out to Malawi in Africa.
These go to mothers in poverty to help them with items needed for a new baby. Members are always so grateful to all the ladies who knit blankets, clothes and soft toys which make up part of the bundles. The Joy and Toy Bags provide toiletries for these mums and simple toys to encourage the children to attend school. This is just one aspect of the Inner Wheel’s work as a club.
Jocelyne McGarvey, of the Inner Wheel Club of Retford, said: “Retford Life magazine has given us great support by promoting other activities and fundraising for our club, advertising events and the charities we have supported. They gave us a wonderful feature article to explain the history and the objects of our club. New members are always welcomed to our club. Wishing Retford Life a happy 10th birthday.”
