The Grove Women’s Institute met on Thursday 21st August and enjoyed a change of venue from their usual meeting place at the Hallcroft Community Centre. Instead, members held their annual Summer Garden Party at the home of committee member Shirley Pickersgill. With fine weather, tables and chairs were arranged in the back garden – a wonderful setting, with immaculate lawns and an abundance of colourful plants. This came as no surprise, as Shirley is a regular winner in the annual Retford in Bloom competition.
Members contributed with their culinary skills, providing sandwiches, scones, sausage rolls, cakes, desserts, and a fabulous trifle to finish. Towards the end of the afternoon the weather turned cooler, so the ladies moved indoors, but an enjoyable and relaxing time was had by all, with plenty of conversation and laughter. Future meetings are planned with a range of different activities and guest speakers on a variety of interesting subjects. Grove WI is actively seeking new members. Meetings are held on the third Thursday afternoon of every month at Hallcroft Community Centre, commencing at 2.00pm.
