Fundraising for The Wednesday (Memory) Group

Andy Jones, a friend of the Wednesday Group, decided to set himself a challenge earlier this year — to walk up Ben Nevis. And he did it! Three friends went with him, all raising money for good causes, Andy and Craig Jones for the Wednesday Group, Daniel Waide for Bluebell Wood and Paul Badkin for Therapy for Daisy.

Andy visited the Wednesday Group recently to tell its members how it went. The minute everyone saw the photographs, they realised what a tremendous undertaking it had been. This was no Sunday stroll in the park; the path was very steep and rocky. Fortunately, the weather was good because it took eleven hours to get to the top and back.
“I thought I’d never walk again,” said Andy and then he told the group that other walkers read their T-shirts, which carried the information that they were raising money for dementia, saying “Good on yer,” and handed over their loose change. “We kept getting more and more to carry with us all the way,” Andy added.

Andy and Craig raised over £400 for the Wednesday Group, a fantastic achievement and one that means they can buy their boccia set and some other things they’d like too. The group owe them a big thank you. Thanks too to some generous sponsors in the Retford business community: Tina and the staff of Imperial Tea Rooms, Sharon, Chris and Ash of Iron Tree Designs who did the T-shirts free of charge, Paul of the Keyshop and Di Fisher of the Photo Den. They’re grateful to all of them and to all who donated. That sort of kindness makes a real difference.
