7th Retford Cubs and Scouts started November with hot dogs and fireworks at the Scout Hut. The Cubs were joined by some of the Beaver Scouts as well.
7th Retford Beaver Scouts had their first sleepover for two years on 13th November. For some it was their first night away from home. Some of them still joined the rest of the Scout Group for the Remembrance Sunday service in the Market Square. All sections were represented at the service and Tom Gajos laid a wreath on behalf of the group. The group had coloured two wreaths that were on display in Morrisons supermarket.
The Scouts looked at using axes, knives and saws, learning about the laws relating to their use in England. When it is better weather, they will be shown how to use them correctly and safely.
The Cubs and some Scouts joined a national online webinar with Blue Cross on 11th November and learnt about how animals helped in World War One. The Cubs learnt about a very brave pigeon, horses and dogs. Some animals were awarded medals for their part in the war effort.
To coincide with World Toilet Day on 19th November and the Toilet Twinning Organisation, the Cubs and Scouts watched videos and activities learning how much we take for granted that we can get clean drinking water and go to the toilet whenever we like – and can feel safe doing so. In the videos, it showed that this is often not the case in other countries. The group is hoping to twin its toilets with a toilet in another country.
The Cubs painted sun catchers and made some Hama bead decorations to go on their Christmas tree in the St Swithun’s Christmas Tree Festival. These have now been returned to the Cubs for them to take home to their own Christmas trees.
During the last session in November, Scouts looked at different types of cookers and then used some of them to cook pancakes, following the instructions themselves.
The Explorers have joined with the fireworks session with Scouts, cooked chocolate oranges in the fire pit, made and played dominoes and enjoyed other activities.
Ethan and James Goff were at Babworth Crematorium on 28th November to help plant a tree in honour of the Queen’s Jubilee. Various local groups and schools went along to help the Retford Lions with this project.
