The Friends of Bassetlaw Museum are now in a much stronger position following the appointment of several new committee members. Their aim is to promote and help the work of the Museum and over the years they have been able provide financial support and allowed access to further funding via the bidding process.

Members receive a quarterly newsletter and are invited to exclusive events where objects not normally on show can be viewed and discussed. Adult membership is just £8.00 per year and application forms are held at the Museum on Grove Street in Retford or via the Museum website, www.bassetlawmuseum.org.uk.

A programme of events is currently being planned, the first of which will take place at the Museum on Thursday 2nd May.

Committee member Judith Goodall is a volunteer with the Commonwealth War Graves Commission (CWGC) and inspects burials in 10 local cemeteries. She will talk about how she became involved and how her role helps the CWGC in their care of the scattered graves. Details of the stories behind some of the men and women buried locally will also be part of the presentation.

The talk will start at 7.00pm and is open to non-members. A small charge of £2.00 per person will be made for non-members or entry is free if you join on the night.

The talk promises to be both interesting and local and it is hoped that it will be well attended. Everyone will be made welcome.
