Friends of Bassetlaw Museum

The Friends of Bassetlaw Museum are holding a ‘Curiosity Corner’ event at the Museum on the evening of Thursday 15th May, starting at 7.00pm. This open, free-to-all evening encourages members and the public to bring along treasured items, family heirlooms, proud memories of relatives, or stories from their family’s past to share.

Those who are willing may speak for around five minutes. Alternatively, anyone with a mystery object or unidentified heirloom is welcome to bring it along – colleagues at the Museum will do their best to identify it. There is no need to book in advance – simply turn up and enjoy the evening. Entry is free for both members and non-members.

Last month, a rumour was shared that the Irontree Alpacas might return to the Museum Gardens in July. The Committee is now delighted to confirm that this is true and a date has been agreed. More details will be shared next month.

February marked the return of Museum Tours, focusing on the building’s history and its former residents. Led by Derek Taylor, these tours take place on the afternoon of the first Friday of each month. Three well-attended tours have taken place so far, and bookings are now open for the next one on Friday 2nd May. Pre-booking is essential – to reserve a place, please email fobm.tours@gmail.com or contact the Museum directly. Tours are free, although a suggested donation of £5.00 is welcomed.

A reminder to those few members who have yet to renew their subscription – please do so as soon as possible. If unsure how to proceed, email the membership team.
