The Live & Local season got off to a cracking start in November with Bonfire Radicals. This is to be followed by The Churchfitters in Concert on Saturday 15th January, 7.30pm in the Parish Hall on Church Lane.
Churchfitters are a trio with a quirky difference. They have been to other village venues around Nottinghamshire and the audiences have raved about them but, so far, they have eluded Ordsall. It is time to put that right and for you to come and see if they live up to their reputation. On the Live & Local circuit they are one of the most requested groups.
It’s hard not to smile when you read about them – that their French-born bass player was not happy to have just four strings on his bass so he “reached for the Black & Decker and bolted on another two”, or that they play a ‘bing bong machine’ made from hacksaw blades. Between them they play eight main instruments including flute, tin whistle, guitar, banjo, dulcimer and ukulele, as well as a bagful of percussion instruments.
So what about their music? Basically folk with harmonies, original songs they have written adding up to a musically diverse band of which Ordsall may never have seen the like. There’s likely to be jokes from people who devise instruments from hub caps, saucepans and saws, so expect an instant rapport with the audience. Elsewhere have had standing ovations; can they achieve that in Ordsall? Come and see for yourselves.
