Are you interested in tracing your family tree but don’t know where to start? Inspire’s six-week course, Researching Your Family History, will introduce participants to the main types of records available for family history research. Attendees will discover where to locate family history documents and online information, while developing their research skills to help make sense of their findings.
The course will cover useful sources for tracing family history, including indexes, original records, and a range of online sources, with a primary focus on records from England and Wales. These records include birth, marriage, and death certificates, census returns, the 1939 Register, and parish registers.
There will also be a brief introduction to other sources such as newspapers, trade directories, electoral registers, and wills / probate records. By using sample documents and case studies, participants will develop their research skills and learn search strategies to help when growing their own family tree. Suggestions will also be given on how to organise and record research.
The course will run on Saturdays from 10.00am to 12.00pm, from Saturday 18th January to Saturday 22nd February, at Worksop Library. The cost of the course is £42.00 (or may be free if you are in receipt of certain benefits).
