Exercise is good for all say Retford MS Society

by | 4 May 2019 | Retford, Support Group

Retford District Multiple Sclerosis Society Support Group is encouraging everyone to move more, and they are leading by example. To highlight what a strong community they are, they have challenged themselves to their own triathlon in June. They have two main aims:

  • To reach more people in the community with MS so they know there is support within this very pro-active local group
  • To raise funds for specialised exercise equipment for the Community Neurological Rehab Team for Bassetlaw, based at Retford Hospital.

They already have support from Clumber Park (National Trust), BPL Leisure, ‘Taste’ Bistro, The Photo Den, the Rehab Team and they are now looking for two main sponsors to help them showcase their example and motivate and inspire not only patients, but the families of those patients too.

The participants hope to raise funds from the general public on the day, 23rd June, while walking 10 miles around Clumber, and swimming 25 lengths in Retford Leisure Centre. You won’t miss them, they will be wearing bright orange T shirts!

Vince Kay will be cycling 100 miles on 16th June around Retford, along the Trent Valley, Scunthorpe and Hull (what a hero!). You will also find them at Retford Charter Day (6th May) and at their ‘Cake Break’ on 10th May and their special Children’s Fun Activity Day on 18th May, led by their specialist nurse for children who have parents or grandparents with MS.
