Since starting the Dukeries Community Band some 38 years ago Malcolm Bevan has been very much at the forefront in continuing to drive the band forwards. Many of these years have been spent with Malcolm leading the band as Musical Director.
Malcolm has decided to take a step back from directing and take a very well deserved rest. Huge thanks to Malcolm for everything he has done for the band over the years. The Band’s new Musical Director is Ray Jones. Ray has over 20 years of conducting experience. His enthusiasm, and sense of humour, is already proving to be a winner amongst band members.
Just because Malcolm is no longer in charge of the baton it doesn’t mean members won’t see him. He is likely to turn up with his cornet any time soon. The other players hope he does.
As a community band they are always happy to have new players, of any age, to join them. It doesn’t matter if you haven’t played for a while, or have started to learn fairly recently. All they ask is that you can read music, want to improve, can attend rehearsals and are able to play in concerts. They are particularly looking for flute, trombone and baritone saxophone players at the current time. However, if you are a brass, woodwind or percussion player and are interested in joining, they would love to hear from you at dukeriescommband@btinternet.com.
Dukeries Community Band rehearse each Tuesday during term time at the Dukeries Academy, New Ollerton from 7.00pm to 9.00pm. Their ever-increasing repertoire features pop to classical with lots in between, so there is plenty for everyone to enjoy
Their concerts support the local community and charities, and they are always happy to hear from organisations who would like us the Band to play for them.
