Get involved in three exciting events in Bassetlaw which have gone online this year.
North Notts Lit Fest
The journey continues for the North Notts Lit Fest as it enters its second year. This year’s festival on the theme of ‘Journeys’ will be ‘digital and distanced’ which means all events will be online with some special distanced activities taking place throughout the week. Running from Saturday 12th September to Saturday 19th September, the festival will be hosting a variety of events for readers, writers and the wider community.
North Notts Literary Ambassador, Liz Carney-Marsh, said: “Although this year will be different, we have some huge literary surprises up our sleeves and some fun ways to get involved!’
The festival will include ‘Virtual Book Clubs’ with authors, podcasts, talks, workshops, daily competitions and much more! Distanced activities include a ‘First Chapters Trail’ around Worksop and Retford utilising some exciting technology, plus a huge book drop where £500 worth of books will be yours to hunt down during the week around the towns!
For a full programme of events that will be free to all, see NNLF’s social media channels and their website www.nnlf.org.uk.
North Notts Writing Competition
The next chapter of the North Notts Writing Competition is about to be written as the annual literary prize continues its journey for the fifth year.
The well-respected competition saw a record breaking number of entries in 2019, thanks to the introduction of two new categories and a partnership with the inaugural North Notts Lit Fest.
Writers and poets of all ages are again encouraged to get creative as the 2020 competition welcomes entries on the theme of ‘Journeys’ in four categories – Short Story, Poetry, Children’s Short Story and, a new category – Children’s Poetry.
Taking inspiration from the 400th anniversary of the Mayflower Pilgrims leaving English shores for the New World, this year’s theme is ‘Journeys’, which can be expressed as any form of journey – physical, emotional, creative, spiritual, fantastical. The choice is yours!
Former winner and North Notts Literary Ambassador, Liz Carney-Marsh, said: “I’m thrilled that the North Notts Writing Competition is back again this year. Whether you’ve never written before or you’ve been writing for years, we want to hear your stories.”
As always, entries to all competitions should have a link to North Nottinghamshire in order to be in the running for a first place prize of £300 in the adult short story and poetry categories and £50.00 worth of book vouchers in the children’s categories.
Information on how to enter can be found at www.nnlf.org.uk.
