‘Move More in May’ promotes physical activity for all

Bassetlaw Place-Based Partnership is thrilled to announce the launch of their annual ‘Move More in May’ campaign – a community-wide imitative aimed at encouraging individuals of all sizes, abilities, and ages to incorporate more movement into their daily lives throughout the month of May.

Move More in May is a collaborative effort supported by Your Health Notts, Bassetlaw District Council, Barnsley Premier Leisure, National Trust Clumber Park, Worksop Town Academy, Focus on Young People in Bassetlaw, and numerous other organisations dedicated to promoting a healthy and active lifestyle.

The campaign aims to inspire residents across Bassetlaw to embrace movement in whatever way feels right for them, whether it’s a leisurely stroll, a bike ride, a dance session, or even a gentle stretch in a chair. With a diverse range of activities and events scheduled throughout the month, there’s something for everyone to enjoy and participate in.

Dr Eric Kelly, Clinical Lead, Bassetlaw Place-Based Partnership, said: “The Move More in May campaign exemplifies our collective dedication to promoting physical activity as a cornerstone of good health. What’s truly remarkable about this initiative is its inclusivity; it celebrates movement in all its forms, recognising that every individual, regardless of ability, can find joy and benefit in being active. From gentle walks and chair-based exercises, to park run events, there’s a movement activity for everyone in Bassetlaw. Together let’s continue to inspire each other and explore the many different ways we can move towards a healthier, happier Bassetlaw.”

As part of the campaign, participants are encouraged to log their movement activities on the official Move More in May website –
Every logged activity will contribute to the collective goal of moving around the globe, aiming for an impressive 50 million steps collectively. To encourage participation, all registered participants will be entered into a free prize draw with a chance to win exciting prizes, including a National Trust Family Membership, an air fryer, a Fitbit watch, swimming passes, and much more.

A celebration of the campaign will be held on Thursday 30th May at Kings Park in Retford, from 11.00am to 3.00pm, where participants and supporters will gather for a day of fun-filled activities and festivities. The event will feature fitness classes, outdoor games, football skills, crafts, mascots, space hoppers, prize giving, and plenty of information on maintaining an active lifestyle.

Move More in May aims to instill a lasting commitment to health and fitness among Bassetlaw residents, encouraging them to continue incorporating movement into their daily routines long after the campaign concludes.
