At the May meeting of East Markham WI, WI business was kept short. Following the donations to the Lincs and Notts Air Ambulance in April, a letter of thanks and a certificate for the £234 raised on the night had been received and displayed on the noticeboard. A signing-up board was available for the Strawberry Tea to be held at Vicky’s on 10th July.

The proposed coach visit to Stamford was fixed for 12th September; the cost will depend on the number attending and the coach size, with a £10.00 deposit required. The Annual Meeting followed with reports and the adoption of the accounts. A new committee was voted in, and Alena was re-elected President for another year. After refreshments, bingo was played with prizes for a line and a house.

On 5th June, a group of members visited the National Trust Workhouse in Southwell, followed by lunch at Reg Taylor’s Garden Centre.

Recycling was the subject at the June meeting, with a representative from Veolia explaining what could and could not be placed in the blue bin. This will be followed by a visit to the Recycling Centre in Mansfield.

On 15th July, Rosemary Pike will give a talk on the Magic of Stained Glass. On 15th August, members will work on their Poppy Display, which will be put up at the War Memorial in time for Remembrance Sunday in November.

The talk on 16th September will be given by Notts Women’s Aid, outlining the work done in the county to help those affected by domestic violence.

New members and visitors (£6.00) are always welcome at the monthly meetings. Visitors may attend up to three times before being asked to join. Pro-rata rates apply for those joining later in the WI year.
