East Markham WI

Following a successful November craft and social evening and fundraising with a Bottle Tombola at the Church Christmas Fair, December was spent preparing for the Christmas Party.

46 members were welcomed with a glass of fizz and invited to buy raffle tickets before taking their seats at the beautifully decorated tables. A Pie and Pea supper was served with a choice of chicken, steak or vegetarian pie followed by a selection of homemade desserts with cream.

After a short break it was time for the party to start. Up first was the appropriately dressed committee with their ‘Girls Night Out’ version of the 12 Days of Christmas, with vocals from Louise. There was laughter, gasps of amazement, giggles and wolf whistles as the members appeared, all of which continued as the song progressed through its many verses – and ended on the 12th day with all of the girls being given ‘Hangover Cures’!

The committee found it much fun to perform and hope members enjoyed it as much as they did. Thanks go to Alena’s sister who coached them through a few rehearsals.

Members enjoyed a Christmas quiz and a Christmas raffle, followed by the Secret Santa game, music for singing and dancing. The WI would like to thank everyone involved – in organising, setting up, serving, dessert-making and clearing away – for helping to make a very happy and successful night.

The first meeting of 2024 was on 16th January when Stylist Sue Burton told and demonstrated ‘How to Look Good with Colour’. This was a fun and informative evening, with some surprises as Sue showed how the colour of clothing can enhance one’s natural colouring or do the opposite.

On 20th February there will be a Social Evening where members can join in a Taste Test of a selection of food items, voting for their favourite. Other fun items are being planned for the evening. In March members will be celebrating 75 years of the WI In East Markham, with a Birthday Dinner.

New members and women visitors are always welcome to monthly meetings. The visitor fee is £5.00 with a maximum of three visits. Pro-rata membership rates are available for those joining during the WI year. For more information contact either Membership on 01777 871567 or the Secretary on 07971 291883.
