In the first three months of the year, East Markham WI members volunteered to run the kitchen at the weekly Warm Space initiative at the Village Hall. Soups have been prepared, cakes baked for afters, tea and coffee made and all served with a smile. The events have been much appreciated by villagers, who said how much they enjoy the opportunity to meet and chat with each other.
The January speaker was James Pogson, from the Northern Tea Company in Chesterfield and the group held their 74th Birthday Dinner in March. A planned Coronation Afternoon Tea Party will be held in May.
Membership renewals are due at the 18th April meeting. The speaker for the evening will be Sue Smith from 7th Heaven Hedgehog Rescue.
The Annual Meeting takes place in May with reports on the previous year and the election of the Committee and President. Former Beefeater Keith Hanson will give a post-Coronation royal talk.
If you are interested in being part of a friendly group which has a varied programme of monthly meetings and extra events, why not go along to the April meeting and join them, or go as a visitor (£5.00) and see what the ladies have planned for the year? They meet at East Markham Village Hall at 7.15pm.
