The July meeting for East Markham WI was an ‘open’ one, when members and 16 visiting ladies visited to hear Janice Holmes and Lesley, from Janice Rose Lingerie, talk on the importance of breast health, the fitting and wearing of suitable bras and the company’s charity work in Gambia.
The presentation ended with a short video of their recent visit to Gambia. It was uplifting to see the joy on the faces of the girls and women after they had been fitted with their gifts. President Jenny gave a vote of thanks.
After the raffle, refreshments were served and members and visitors chatted with the presenters, browsed the underwear display and checked the notices of future branch and county events on the information table. In August, Ian Morgan talked on Footpads, Kings and Highwaymen.
On 20th September the speaker is Helen Day, talking on the History of Ladybird Books. Helen is a collector of vintage Ladybird books and has catalogued those published between 1940 and 1980, although her extensive collection goes beyond this period.
