East Markham WI

In May, East Markham WI member Claire Champion gave a most informative and interesting talk on hypnotherapy. She told how, after a career in teaching, where pupils regularly turned to her for help with their problems, she decided to retrain as a counsellor. During training, hypnotherapy drew her interest and eventually she became a registered clinical hypnotherapist.

Claire explained the difference between our conscious and unconscious minds. Under hypnosis the therapist is able to help her clients unlock their unconscious mind to reach memories or emotions that are at the root of their anxieties or problems and then help them to seek ways to help overcome any fears. Claire shared many anecdotes of how hypnotherapy had helped clients overcome a wide range of anxieties, from fear of flying and spiders to personal traumas.

WI business followed a refreshment break, with members voting on the Resolution for the National Annual meeting in June.
The 31st May saw members celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee with a Royal Tea Party. The plan had been to hold this in a member’s garden, but the weather decided that this was not to be. Fortunately, and with much rearranging the day before and in the morning, it was possible to squeeze the event indoors. Despite the rain showers, members arrived dressed as if going to a Buckingham Palace Garden Party. Special thanks go to Janette and Richard for allowing their home to be used for this special event.

The June meeting was the Annual Meeting with the committee and President being elected and a display of branch and royal memorabilia.

In July, the WI welcomes Janice Rose Lingerie from Sutton on Trent to talk about their lingerie business and their third world charity work. This is an open meeting; all ladies interested in learning more about the various types of bra and their fitting are welcome to join on 19th July at 7.15pm, at East Markham Village Hall, NG22 0SS. The visitor fee is £4.00.
