Community workshops on the future of West Burton taking place this month

by | 7 May 2022 | Notice, Retford

Readers are probably already aware that at the end of 2022, West Burton’s coal-fired power station is expected to close with demolition beginning in 2024. As a result, a 250-acre site will soon become available for redevelopment.

It is vital that resident voices are heard in the planning process. Therefore, a team of 20 residents from the surrounding villages have been working together to propose options for the future of the site, culminating in two community workshops taking place in May:

  • Saturday 14th May, Sturton Le Steeple Village Hall, DN22 9HY, starting at 10.00am (arrivals from 9.30am)
  • Sunday 15th May, South Leverton Village Hall, DN22 0BT, starting at 10.00am (arrivals from 9.30am)

Three potential masterplans for the site will be shared – and the STEP nuclear fusion project, which has been reported in local news, remains a fourth possibility.

The West Burton Residents’ Planning Group wants to know what you think about each of these plans and would, therefore, welcome as many local residents attending as possible. Tea, coffee and biscuits will be provided and the sessions will be over by 12.00pm each day. Local voices need to influence the future of this important site.
