For Retford Heritage Day on Saturday 10th September, Retford Library will be hosting a Heritage Café with the theme of local industries. Drop into the library’s new local heritage area between 9.00am and 3.00pm and discover what’s available for local and family history. View hidden treasures from the Local Studies collection including historical maps, local newspapers and photographs to find out more about Retford’s industrial past. This is a free event and no booking is required – just drop by.
Also in the library’s gallery, visitors will be able to see ‘Lost Words of Nottinghamshire’ – an exhibition of Nottinghamshire dialect words illustrated by artist Hannah Sawtell and featuring poetry produced by Nottinghamshire school children from workshops led by acclaimed writer and poet Andrew Graves. The exhibition is free to visit at Retford Library from 3rd September to 8th October.

Don’t miss the chance to get creative with your own Nottinghamshire words on Saturday 17th September, 10.00am to 12.00pm, at a special Dialect Poetry Writing Workshop with Andrew Graves. Join him for a weird and wonderful journey through the Nottinghamshire dialect and have a go at constructing poetry and stories using old, familiar and lost terms and expressions!

This will be a fun, creative workshop for participants aged 16+ at all levels of experience. Tickets cost £5.00 and can be purchased in advance at www.inspireculture.org.uk/lostwords, in person at the library or by phone on 01623 677200.
