We often think of Jane Austen in terms of bonnets, balls, and romance, but her novels contain a wealth of detail about everyday life. Food is the focus here, from Mrs Elton’s rout cakes to the ‘beautiful pyramids of grapes, nectarines and peaches’ served at Pemberley, but other aspects of social history in the Regency will also be included. Booking is essential. Tickets are £3.00, which includes refreshments.
Judith Hedley belongs to Austen Addicts, a friendly group meeting monthly in Sutton-cum-Lound. They welcome anyone and everyone who loves Jane Austen – for more details, contact judith.hedley22@gmail.com.
