Places of Welcome
A weekly group starting Tuesday 22nd April, 10.00am to 11.30am
Drop in to the friendly Places of Welcome group at Retford Library every Tuesday morning to meet new people and reconnect with your community. They’re part of the national Places of Welcome initiative, helping to provide a network of community venues where anyone can go to find a friendly face for a cup of tea and a chat. No booking is required.
Celebrating Jane – A talk by Rob White to celebrate 250 years of Jane Austen
Thursday 24th April, 6.00pm
A few years ago, Retford Library’s friend Rob was asked to produce a talk on Jane Austen, and what he delivered went down very well. Now, as we celebrate 250 years since her birth, they’re delighted that he’s agreed to repeat it. Expect some fascinating insights covering the full range of her work, in what promises to be a very special and highly entertaining evening. Booking is essential. Tickets cost £3.00 to include refreshments.
Cathy Bramley – Author Talk

Join Cathy Bramley, the bestselling Nottinghamshire-based author of 14 heartwarming romance novels including A Patchwork Family and My Kind of Happy, for a fantastic evening as she talks about her writing career, her books and her involvement with World Book Night 2025, for which she has written The Surprise Visitor. - Keep Calm and Carry Yarn: Thursdays 3rd and 17th April, 1.30pm to 3.00pm. Fortnightly sessions. Take along your own craft project to work on and have a chat with others over coffee and biscuits. The cost is £1.00 to include refreshments.
Retford Library Writers’ Group
Thursdays 10th and 24th April, 2.00pm to 4.00pm
Fortnightly sessions. Go along, listen and share. An informal friendly group with members at different stages of the writing process, including beginners.
Rattle Rhyme and Roll
Wednesdays and Fridays, 10.00am to 10.20am
Stories and rhymes for the under-fives in the children’s library. Just turn up and join in the fun.

Retford Library has a fascinating local heritage collection and offers free use of Ancestry and the British Newspaper Archive on library PCs for library members. The 1921 census is now available too.
