Who doesn’t love a cup of tea, a lovely scone and beautiful music? Live Music Now’s Songs and Scones programme is held at Retford Library on the first Friday of each month! Enjoy uplifting live performances from professional musicians whilst making new friends over tea and scones. The events are particularly suitable for older people – including those living with dementia and their carers – but all are welcome to attend. Tickets are just £2.00. Retford Library’s Poetry Cafe

Join Retford staff for a relaxing afternoon of poetry. Take along a favourite poem or two, or just listen to others. Booking is advisable and tickets cost £2.50 to include a cream tea.
Dukeries Ukeries Concert

Live music and fun from the fabulous Dukeries Ukeries Ukulele band. Tickets cost £5.00 to include refreshments. Booking is essential.
Keep Calm and Carry Yarn
Thursdays 8th and 22nd August, 1.30pm to 3.00pm
Fortnightly sessions. Take along your own craft project to work on and have a chat with others over coffee and biscuits. The cost is £1.00 to include refreshments.
Retford Library Writers’ Group
Thursdays 1st, 15th and 29th August, 2.00pm to 4.00pm
Fortnightly sessions. Go along, listen and share. An informal friendly group with members at different stages of the writing process, including beginners.
The Greatest Robot Ever – Family Theatre
Thursday 22nd August, 10.30am
This interactive dance theatre show is perfect for children aged three to eight years and their grownups. Booking is advised at www.inspireculture.org.uk. Running time: 1 hour (30 minutes show followed by 30 minutes workshop). Tickets cost: library members £4.00, non-library members £7.00.
Artist Amanda Rigby and author Mark Grist are the 2024 Artist and Author in Residence for Inspire. They have worked with primary-aged children, including children from Hallcroft Infant and Nursery School, to co-create the Expression Exhibition on display at Retford Library until 8th September. On Thursday 29th August, Amanda and Mark will be running a free family workshop from 10.00am to 12.00pm.
Rattle Rhyme and Roll – this will not take place over the summer holidays and will resume in September.
The Summer Reading Challenge will take place over the summer holidays at Retford Library. Keep your children reading this summer with rewards and activities throughout. Craft activities will take place every Wednesday in the summer holidays starting on 31st July at 11.00am. This is a free drop in event.
Retford Library has a fascinating local heritage collection and offers free use of Ancestry and the British Newspaper Archive on library PCs for library members.
