“For the first time in years there was some joy and a new hope that I could live a normal life doing the things I enjoy.”
Born in Doncaster, raised in Westwoodside and now living in Misterton, Liz Sabin was 16 when she was diagnosed with Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis (JIA), after a year or so of trying to find answers to explain the pain and swelling she was experiencing.

She is 32 now and still living with it! Not a day goes by for Liz without wondering what the next day will bring with the JIA or worrying about her limits.

With the help and support of her family, friends and medical professionals, she learnt to live with it and adapt her life. It’s not easy living with JIA but with a little help and support and a bit of adaptation we can go on, achieve our goals and live our best lives!

When she was young, Liz always wanted to be an author and see a book with her name on it. Having JIA has helped her achieve that. In the last few years, she has put pen to paper and, with great difficulty, revisited her JIA journey to put together a book that she hopes will help others with JIA and those living with someone who has JIA.

Although the story is a fictional one, it draws on real experiences of being diagnosed with JIA and living with JIA and goes into a lot more detail about Liz’s JIA journey.

Coastal Expressions is a story of the communication, adaptation, passion and courage of two young people who have each faced difficulties in their lives and have lost their way – until fate and a helpful post box brings their paths together.
