Now we are on British Summer Time, the lighter evenings may mean more time to spend in our gardens. Steve Routledge from ‘Flora Media’ at Caunton came to Clays Horticultural Society’s March meeting to inspire members into growing the best flowers to cut.
With his wife Paula, an award-winning florist, Steve has developed their gardens over the past 20 years, with long sweeping borders, a vegetable garden, cutting gardens, a rockery and wildflower meadows. His subject for the evening was their Flower Farm, which has provided many varied blooms for their exhibits at RHS Chelsea Flower Show.
If you want a day out, why not book into one of their workshops held regularly in floristry, crafts and horticulture? They are relaxed and fun and cater for all including learners in a relaxed environment. Vouchers are available for useful presents.
On 4th June at 11.00am to 5.00pm Clays has its Open Gardens Sunday and scarecrow competition. A selection of gardens in Wheatley and Sturton have been offered for viewing and they would be happy to have more.
The scarecrow competition is open to all and will be judged by an independent judge, in the previous week, with a prize for the winner.
The group’s next meeting is on Monday 15th May at Wheatley Village Hall at 7.30pm, when the speaker will be the excellent Howard Drury on ‘Gardening and Climate Change’. For further information, please call Christine Crowther on 01427 884882.
