Clays Gardening Club

After a busy summer out and about, the Clays Gardening Club returned to Wheatley Village Hall in September where they welcomed back Steve Lovell, garden designer and landscaper, for his talk about using texture in the garden to encourage gardeners to look beyond just using flowers but also to think about using bark, berries and leaves to add more interest all year round as well as support wildlife.

October was the AGM followed by a few glasses of wine, some delicious homemade savoury snacks and a brilliant garden-related quiz which got everyone scratching their heads! The programme for the following year was also revealed and it looks to be a busy and exciting year ahead with various trips out, including a long-awaited visit to David Austin Roses, talks by experts (lawncare is in there for all those asking!) and the Club’s Open Garden Event and Scarecrow competition in June 2025.

November’s meeting on the 18th is entitled ‘The Drunken Gardener’ and members and visitors are encouraged to bring along homemade tipples to share. On 2nd December there’s a sherry, mince pie and wreath making get together at 7.30pm and the year will be rounded off with a Christmas lunch at Ye Olde Bell, Barnby Moor on 8th December for which booking is essential.

If you love gardening or have no clue where to start and would like some ideas, or if you just want a fun and sociable evening out, then a warm welcome awaits at Wheatley Village Hall, usually on the third Monday of the month (please check the programme) with doors opening at 7.00pm for a 7.30pm start. Visitors and new members are always welcome. Please call Christine Crowther on 01427 884882 for more information or check out their Facebook and Instagram pages @Clays Gardening Club.
