Clays Gardening Club

Clays Gardening Club’s April meeting proved to be a most enjoyable visit to Floral Media, near Caunton.

Steve and Paula Routledge have run this business for many years. They now specialise in growing high quality cut flowers which are dispatched countrywide. They have displayed at Chelsea Flower Show and Paula broadcasts on BBC Radio Nottingham each month.

They also run events for clubs and societies, providing an entertaining day out. Courses include Making Dried Flower Wreaths, Flower Arranging and Willow Basket Making. These are run periodically throughout the year by arrangement. The group’s members learned about the plants and flowers in production and were also able to ask any questions they had.

After a tour around the grounds, 40 members enjoyed an excellent lunch, then Paula demonstrated her skill with flowers by constructing an exquisite hand-tied spray. The firm offers these as part of their displays for functions such as weddings and supplies many cut flowers to florists for decorative purposes.

June brings the group’s holiday trip to North Wales then, later in the month, a social evening visit to Ann Beeby’s beautiful garden at East Markham. A July outing to Felley Priory concludes the summer events.
