Clays Gardening Club is delighted to announce its annual Open Garden Day, taking place on Sunday 8th June from 10.00am to 5.00pm. This popular family event invites visitors to enjoy a variety of gardens belonging to residents of North and South Wheatley and Sturton-le-Steeple.

Visitors can begin their tour at any of the participating gardens, where entry tickets can be purchased for £5.00 per person (free for under 16s). This grants access to all 12 gardens opening their gates this year, offering plenty to explore. Some gardens will also be holding plant sales, and refreshments will be available throughout the day in both villages. These include bacon and sausage sandwiches, tea, coffee, soft drinks and homemade cakes – cash payments only.

In the lead-up to the event, a scarecrow competition will be running across Wheatley and Sturton. Open to everyone, with no set theme, creativity is key. A prize will be awarded for the most imaginative scarecrow. Participants must register by Friday 6th June to ensure their entry is included in the judging, which will take place over the weekend of Saturday 7th and Sunday 8th June. All scarecrows should be displayed from Monday 2nd June at the front of the property where they can be easily seen by the judges.

For more information about the Open Garden Day, a list of the gardens, or to enter the scarecrow competition, please contact Alan on 07961 842287 or Sharon on 07941 142848. Event updates will also be posted on local Facebook pages.

Looking ahead to July, the club has two coach trips planned. On Monday 7th July, members and guests will visit the renowned David Austin Roses, followed by a day trip to the RHS Garden Show at Wentworth Woodhouse on Friday 18th July. Non-members are welcome on both trips, though places are limited. To book or to find out more about Clays Gardening Club, contact Christine on 01427 884882.
