Christmas will be different this year

One of many Christmas highlights for Retford area families is when the Lions bring Santa in his sleigh to their street so that children can come out and have a chat to him. This year things will be a little different because of COVID-19. Santa’s helpers will not be able to knock on doors to tell people he is passing. Instead Santa will park his sleigh at selected stopping places and wait for children to visit him there. Retford Lions Club are instigating special protective screens for the sleigh’s window and other similar distancing precautions.

The list of stopping places will be published nearer the time and, of course, Santa will still use his online tracker to make finding him easy, as the main aim is to bring Santa to the children.

However, Retford Lions hope that they may still collect donations to help with their charitable projects and local good causes. For those wanting to support the Lions in their work for the community, it will be possible to make contactless card payments as well as cash donations but, as usual, donations are by no means mandatory.

Finalisation of these special arrangements is ongoing, and will be hopefully be published in the next edition of Retford Life. Liaison between several organisations is necessary in order to follow guidelines and provide the optimum security.
