Chicago comes to the stage

You are invited to see a story of murder, greed, corruption, violence, exploitation, and treachery — all those things we hold near and dear to our hearts. This year The Elizabethan Academy Expressive Arts Department will bring the award winning, record-breaking ‘Chicago’ to the stage entirely performed by students of the Academy. See performances between 4th and 7th March at 7.00pm. All tickets cost £7.50.

The musical, by John Kander, Fred Ebb and Bob Fosse, is currently the second longest running musical in Broadway history (behind the Phantom of the Opera — another previous Academy production) and features some of the most beloved songs in the musical theatre cannon including ‘All That Jazz’, ‘Mr Cellophane’, ‘Razzle Dazzle’ and ‘Nowadays’.
In roaring twenties Chicago an aspiring jazz singer, Roxie Hart, murders a faithless lover and convinces her hapless husband, Amos, to take the rap… until he finds out he’s been duped and turns on Roxie. Convicted and sent to death row, Roxie and another ‘Merry Murderess’, Velma Kelly, vie for the spotlight and the headlines, ultimately joining forces in search of the ‘American Dream’: fame, fortune and acquittal. Watch as superstar lawyer, Billy Flynn, defends both women in a court and town that seem far more focuses on fame than the truth.

The talented students of The Elizabethan Academy have previously performed ‘Hairspray’ ‘West Side Story’, ‘Les Miserables’ and ‘In the Heights’ to sold out crowds, and this year will surely be another early sell-out. Make sure you secure your tickets today by calling the Academy on 01777 713700. The Academy is delighted to again have the support and sponsorship of Kettlewells of Retford.
