Celebrating St George’s Day in style

by | 7 June 2022 | Children's Group, Retford

Bassetlaw Scouts and Girl Guiding Retford enjoyed being able to parade for St George’s Day on Sunday 24th April for the first time since 2019. The Mansfield and District Drum Corp led the parade of over 200 young people and adults through Carolgate to St Swithun’s Church. Reverend Dick Lewis led the service in church, with Councillor Garry Clarkson and his wife attending representing the Charter Trustees.

Steven Tupper, County Commissioner for Nottinghamshire Scouts, came and presented awards to various adults and young people. A Commissioner for Girl Guiding Retford gave awards to two young ladies who have completed their training as young leaders and are now moving on to the adult training scheme.

For 7th Retford Scouts, during the Easter holidays both the Cubs and Scouts had a local hike. In the second week of the holidays, the Scouts and Explorers joined together to share a Passover meal. Scouts had a fun session with paper, learning how to climb through a piece of A4 paper and other tricks.

They took part in an orienteering trail the following week. Cubs had a session about St George and other Patron Saints and, the following week, made some mosaics using scrap items from home.

Beavers welcomed some new members after the Easter holidays so are full again for the moment.
