Paintings by Pamela Taylor Moore
Saturday 15th March to Saturday 26th April
The latest exhibition at Cath Ray Gallery and Studios in Retford showcases the vibrant and expressive work of Pamela Taylor Moore. Located in a quiet corner of St Michael’s Place, just off Bridgegate, the gallery will display a selection of Pamela’s large landscapes, portraits, still life and abstract paintings in watercolour and acrylics. For Pamela, painting is an essential part of life. As a teenager, she would spar with her uncle, Sharkey Bell (a well-known local boxer), as an outlet for her frustrations and emotions – now, she channels those feelings into her artwork.
Pamela has always been drawn to the arts and, as a young girl, dreamed of a career on stage. However, life took a different course, and she left school to care for family members when her mother became ill. Later, as she raised her own family, she indulged her love of literature, music, poetry and painting whenever possible. She was a member of the Lena Snowden Singers and performed on stage at Retford Little Theatre, as well as participating in creative writing groups, where she enjoyed reciting poetry and singing – often while painting. Deeply religious and emotional, Pamela draws inspiration from 19th century French painters, admiring their ability to convey deep feelings and atmosphere through expressive brushstrokes.
To complement the exhibition, an eight-week ‘Expressive Painting’ course will be available, teaching students to use acrylics, watercolours, pastels and inks to create atmospheric and emotive artwork through varied brushstrokes and bold colours. Sessions will be held on Mondays (1.00pm to 3.00pm), Thursday evenings (7.00pm to 9.00pm), and Saturdays (3.30pm to 5.30pm).
Additionally, Femke Williams will return to the gallery to host ‘Meditate and Paint’ on Sunday 2nd March, 1.00pm to 4.00pm. This popular session will guide participants through meditation, visualisation and short writing exercises to help release stagnant energy. The session will culminate in the creation of a painting on canvas to take home. To book, contact Rosewood Wellbeing on Facebook or visit the gallery on Bridgegate for further details.
The gallery also runs after-school and Saturday clubs for young people.
