Beavers have made blow rockets and, the following week, they made and played with water rockets. They also learnt how to put up a tent during one of their weekly sessions.
Cubs had a cycling session and a nature walk in Babworth Woods. On 9th June, they enjoyed a weekend camp at Jim Page campsite in Laughterton that included a full bushcraft day led by Three Arrows Survival Skills Team.
They went on a local walk down to the River Trent and continued with naturalist theme and made some wild flower seed bombs as well. They slept for two nights in tents – a first for several of them.
Lots of them earned badges, so there was also a skills session at the Scout Hut where they learned how to sew their badges on to their sweatshirts. Others made sandwiches, created some road safety posters (part of the Cyclist Badge) and other skills.
7th Retford hosted a district ‘Try It Cricket’ day at Bridon Cricket Club on 25th June. Thank you to Wayne Leatherland and Kevan Marsh who offered their coaching skills to the Cub Scouts. The Cubs were joined by a group from 2nd Tuxford and another from 2nd Ranskill.
Scouts used the first session in June to plan their menu for their camp and make a shopping list for food. The Scouts went to the same campsite as the Cubs, but they had to put up their own tents, cook and clean for themselves and generally amuse themselves with various activities on offer.
They did go out as a group on a geo-caching hike in the local area, led by one of the leaders. The Scouts also had a turn on the home-made assault course, making water rockets and other water games and the final session in June was on the water safety theme.
Looking ahead to later in the year, the group is planning to run the successful Scout Christmas Post service again. More details will be published nearer the time.
