Bassetlaw Swim Squad lapping up success

Bassetlaw Swim Squad is lapping up success after providing four qualifiers for the British Swimming Summer Championships across eight events, and seven qualifiers for the Swim England National Summer Meet across 12 events.

That’s more than a 300% increase in number of events compared to last year. Swimmers in Britain had three months to post a time to rankings — the first 24 ranked swimmers in each event and each age-group qualify for the British competition and the next 20 ranked compete in their respective Home Nations competition.

Lucy Gratton, of Worksop Dolphins, Natasha Utley, Jessica Gillatt and debutant Isabella Hobson-Corbett, all of Retford Swimming Club, posted times to qualify for the British competition as well as the Summer Meet.
Thomas Johnstone and debutants Callum Kettlewell and Mia Hunt from Retford Swimming Club, also posted times to qualify for the Swim England competition.

Head of Performance Swimming, Michael Glossop, paid tribute to the swimmers: “To achieve these results just a year on from BPL’s investment in performance swimming for Bassetlaw, is incredible. I really wanted to see an

improvement at regional level and wasn’t really expecting to see such progress at a national level.
“Thanks has to go to all the schools in the area for supporting these athletes to perform at their best, as well as Danny Taylor and his team at the University of Lincoln for sport science support, making sure that we can deliver the best possible programme we can.”

The championships will take place from 24th July to 4th August at Ponds Forge, Sheffield.
