When Bassetlaw Food Bank (BFB) look back on 2023, they are amazed by what has been achieved with the support of the community. In total they provided 31,381 days’ worth of food and the equivalent of 94,143 meals to people dealing with food insecurity.
This was possible because of the caring individuals that donate their time, money, and essential food items. It was achievable because of the support of dedicated community groups and churches, and inspired schools and businesses which all play their part in making sure that local people don’t go without one of life’s essentials.
And for that a huge thank you is in order.
“The work we do is all about people. It’s about helping people going through really difficult times. And it’s about allowing the people that want to help in some way to do just that,” said Laura Kennedy,
Fundraising Manager. “We bridge the gap, but the support is community-led and it’s heartwarming. It makes me feel incredible pride in Bassetlaw and its people.”
But that’s not all that was achieved throughout the year. Many other people were supported by the Food Bank’s additional projects which have the shared aim to decrease the need for emergency food parcels across the district.
The Harworth based lunch club saw 45 regular elderly attendees enjoy a hot meal each week, the subsidised fruit and veg box scheme helped over 70 households, the mobile Bassetlaw Community Shop was visited by 140 people weekly and the allotment and workshop project ‘Grow It, Fix It’ supplied fresh produce for food parcels and lunch club and provided white goods to households in need.
Again, this would not be possible without the community and their generosity so thank you to every single person that supported BFB in 2023!
