There are big plans for Bassetlaw Food Bank in 2023, and they’d love to tell you all about them!

Grow It, Fix It

At present they are developing Grow It, Fix It, an allotment and white goods repair project for locals, based in Manton, situated in the field beside the Food Hub.

Once fully established there will be several community allotment plots and a polytunnel, a repair workshop and welfare unit, a fruit tree orchard and bee apiary.

As part of the ‘Grow It’ element the food bank will have their own allotment plot, and their produce will support their emergency food parcels and social eating project. Surplus produce from residents’ allotments will also be supplied for the same purpose.

The ‘Fix it’ element will be a project recruiting volunteers to work in the workshop, where individuals can upcycle, fix and refurbish a variety white goods and other household items to give back to the community.

Grow It, Fix It creates the opportunity for individuals to grow their own produce, gain green fingered and practical skills, meet new people, and spend time in the great outdoors. Those with experience in being an allotment holder or refurbishing white goods can share their skills, and those new to the venture wanting to learn something new, or are searching for employment, can build their skills and confidence aiding their employment search.

Community Hub

The Community Hub will be an extension of the Food Hub in Manton. The Food Hub is the centre for staff and is where volunteers sort donations and prepare emergency food parcels.

The Community Hub will include a café which will offer a variety of affordable hot and cold food, a communal space for socialising, and multiple offices which can be used by clubs and groups for meetings, or local agencies to provide support services.
