Bassetlaw Branch Parkinson’s UK

Four new members were warmly welcomed to the April meeting of the Bassetlaw branch of Parkinson’s UK, when the guest speaker was Tracy Simmons from Parkgate Mobility. Membership continues to grow as more people with Parkinson’s Disease in the area find friendship and support in the group. This goes on to demonstrate that no-one need be alone with the condition. Tracy gave a humorous talk and demonstrated a large number of aids designed for making easy living for people with various disabilities.

Members recently enjoyed a coach trip to the Leeds Old Time Music Hall together with friends from the Bassetlaw Cardiac Support Group. Fancy dress costumes were worn which added to the enjoyment of the day. The branch also funded a lunch at The Lockkeeper on Tuesday 18th April.

The group’s May meeting is on Tuesday 2nd when the guest speaker will be Nicola Rae from Bassetlaw Mind. Nicola encouraged some branch members to join a recent ceramics course at The Harley Gallery Studio which proved to be most successful. Although totally inexperienced, the group managed to create several ‘wonky’ pots and dishes. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the experience and express their thanks to all concerned.

The branch meets on the first Tuesday of every month at 2.00pm Worksop Cricket Club, Central Avenue S80 1EN, when new members are most welcome to join us. For more information, please call Chris on 01909 730629.
