The different sections at 7th Retford Scout Group have all been busy doing all sorts of activities this term.
The youngest section, the Beaver Scouts, had a fun session in Kings Park collecting leaves for autumnal pictures that they made the following week. They have been making rockets, toasting marshmallows and enjoying various craft activities.
Cubs had a tie-dying session, learned about different ways to communicate (including Braille and Sign Language) and had a noisy music session.
In the half term holiday members followed some of the Retford Heritage Trail, and the following week there was an open session for Beavers, Cubs and their families. Everyone watched fireworks while enjoying hotdogs following by hot chocolate with marshmallows and cream.
Scouts had their own fireworks and hot dog session. At the start of November Cubs made some lanterns for Remembrance and made some Christmas decorations for the Tree Festival.
Scouts also had a tie-dying session, have completed the Astronomer badge over several weeks, made some balloon models, learned some Morse Code and used it to play some games in the dark in Kings Park.
They enjoyed a hike from Rushey Sidings back to Retford, and all made war-time stew in small groups while talking about food in the Second World War.
Helen Saville from Wonderland Book Shop visited and led a session looking at books and members worked through the Scout Librarian Activity Badge.
All sections were represented at the Remembrance Sunday service in Retford Market Square, where they were joined by members of 1st Clarborough Scout Group.
All sorts of ideas are in the planning process for 2024 including a sleepover for the Cubs, a huge County Camp over May Day Bank Holiday Weekend, a weekend camp for Cubs and a survival skills weekend for Scouts. District Cubs are planning a sleepover and day at Gullivers Kingdom for September next year.

At the moment the group does not have a Squirrel Drey but would look into starting one with sufficient interest. This is for 4-5 year olds.
They would welcome any new adult volunteers. If that or any other section would be of any interest, please email as above.
