Aurora is a local cancer charity based in the Old Library Building in Worksop, offering support to people in Bassetlaw living with cancer or a long-term health condition. It provides a welcoming, safe space for anyone seeking companionship, a sense of community, or the opportunity to try something new. A recent sell-out Pimm’s and Canapés Ladies Night was a fantastic evening enjoyed by all. Guests were welcomed by volunteers in dinner suits who served Pimm’s, canapés and hors d’oeuvres. Entertainment included live music from local singer Ann Fotheringham, over 20 craft stalls, and a delicious buffet donated by Greencore. Aurora staff and volunteers staged an impromptu fashion show, showcasing some of the fabulous clothes from the charity shop. Hand massages and Angel Card readings were offered by beauty therapists, and both the charity shop and tearooms remained open throughout the night. Thanks go to Brett and Grace from Barclays Bank for their help on the evening, and to local businesses for their generous raffle prize donations. Money raised will help fund Aurora’s free package of holistic support for anyone diagnosed with any type of cancer, including beauty therapy services.

- Long-Term Health Conditions – A sociable and fun support group encouraging self-help, knowledge sharing, and friendly chat. First Monday of the month, 10.30am to 12.00pm, Community Room. Free.
- Buzzom Buddiez – Emotional support and friendship for women who have experienced breast cancer. Second Thursday of the month, 2.30pm to 3.30pm, Valerie’s Tearooms. Free.
- Prostate & Partners Support Group – Mutual support and talks from cancer professionals. Third Friday of the month, 12.30pm to 2.00pm, Community Room or Meeting Room. Free.
- Rainbow Club – Living with Cancer – Support for men and women to talk with others who understand the experience of a cancer diagnosis. Third Thursday of the month, 2.00pm to 4.00pm, Meeting Room. Free.
- Bereavement Group – Support for those affected by bereavement. Every Friday, 9.30am to 12.30pm, Meeting Room. Free.
The Helping Hand of Aurora
A free exhibition is running at the Aurora Centre until the end of September, offering an insight into the heart of the charity through sculpture, artwork and poetry. Featuring contributions from the Aurora team and sculptures by Hamish Herd, the display reflects on the shared need for support and connection. Visitors are warmly invited to take a moment for reflection, calm, and discovery.

- Pet Shop Boys Tribute Charity Night – Saturday 18th October, from 7.00pm at Shireoaks Sports and Social Club. Tickets £10.00.
- Fish and Chip Supper Night – Friday 7th November, 6.30pm to 9.30pm. Supper of fish, chips and peas, followed by a Belgian chocolate demonstration with singing and comedy from Andy Grey.
