Aurora Wellbeing Centre

by | 6 February 2024 | Local Charity, Retford

Aurora is a cancer charity providing support in the local area for people living with cancer or a long-term health condition. But Aurora is not just a cancer charity; they have a variety of support groups, counselling services and recreational activities on offer for the public too as well as a charity shop and tearooms.

Spotlight on… Aurora Charity Shop

Did you know Aurora has a large, spacious charity shop in-house at the Old Library Building? There is a large selection of good quality clothing, bedding, shoes and handbags for sale and stock is rotated weekly to ensure there is always a bargain to be had! The shop is run entirely on a volunteer basis so all the money generated in the shop through your support helps to provide services to the people of Bassetlaw.

The shop accepts donations of good quality items Monday to Friday but unfortunately cannot take large items of furniture or electrical items. They also have possibly the largest selection of pre-loved books in the area, displayed on the original lovely oak shelving from the old Library. So why not go and sit and relax in the main atrium or grab a bargain in the charity shop, visit the Heritage Hub and learn more about local history or enjoy a cup of tea and a slice of homemade cake in Valerie’s Tearooms?

Volunteering and Fundraising at Aurora

Volunteers are at the heart of Aurora and they would not be able to deliver services without them. To become a volunteer all you need is enthusiasm and an interest in supporting the local community.

Do you have a couple of hours a week to spare? There are vacancies in the charity shop, tearooms and reception as well as in the Heritage Hub, which provides an exciting programme of heritage wellbeing activities. Drop into the centre, pick up an application form and join the team! For more information contact 01909 470985 or email admin@aurorawellbeing.org.uk.

Aurora also welcomes fundraising. Have you ever wanted to do a sky dive, run the London Marathon or climb Ben Nevis? Then maybe you could tick one of these off your bucket list and fundraise for Aurora at the same time!

If you are less ambitious, maybe a coffee morning, afternoon tea or sponsored walk is your thing? If you would like to get involved or have an idea for a fundraising event email hospitality@aurorawellbeing.org.uk.

For more information about Aurora, visit them at The Old Library Building, Memorial Avenue, Worksop, S80 2BJ – Monday to Friday, 9.00am to 4.00pm.
