A riot of colour to welcome in 2024!

‘Under One Roof’ is an exhibition of painting and ceramics combining the work of Dee Barnes and her husband, Jeremy Webster. See it at Cath Ray Gallery and Studios, 58b Bridgegate, Retford DN22 7UZ from Saturday 13th January to Saturday 2nd March.

Jeremy and Dee share a rich history of working in the arts having first met over 30 years ago whilst working at the Yorkshire Sculpture Park.

Jeremy is a painter whose landscapes show a bold approach to colour and paint and are the perfect foil to Dee’s playful and colourful ceramics. Both artists’ work is full of life and colour and reflect their joy of being alive, with subject matter ranging from landscapes and portraits to work inspired by Staffordshire pottery and the antiques that furnish their Georgian period home in Grantham.

Dee was originally a dancer, but became frustrated by the temporary nature of live performance and so began to create more permanent pieces of artwork. She now combines her studios ceramics with her role of Ceramics Tutor at Loughborough and Leicester Universities as well as leading courses at the Harley Gallery in Welbeck. She is registered on the Crafts Council Directory and is a member of London Potters, and an associate member of the Craft Potters Association.

Jeremy grew up in Cleethorpes and has a long and rich history of working within the visual arts. His experience includes running the Usher Gallery and The Collection in Lincoln and has curated many exhibitions and worked alongside renowned artists including Grayson Perry and Bruce Mclean. He currently works as Deputy Director at the Attenborough Arts Centre at Leicester University and sits on a number of arts boards including Charnwood Arts and the Heslam Trust.

This very rare exhibition of both artists’ work together runs alongside an eight-week ‘Drawing’ course, taught by resident artist, Cath Ray. The course is suitable for beginners or art enthusiasts wanting to sharpen up their drawing skills. Classes start on 8th January, but you can join the sessions any time.
