A return to golf

All golfers are still waiting a return to playing their favourite sport. It is hoped that, as the COVID restrictions are eased, it will be possible to play golf again soon. But whilst golf courses remain closed, what does this mean for Retford Golf Club? As reported last month, the groundsmen continue to keep the course maintained to a high standard, so that as soon as is possible the golfers can return to play. Prospective members can still contact the club.
Some other consequence of these long lockdowns is very personal to a couple of golfers at Retford. Allan Meacher and Lin Tongue were honoured to be appointed Mr and Lady Captain in 2020. But there was no golf for most of the year. They should have been welcoming other clubs to enjoy the facilities at Retford, by inviting them to play some friendly matches, and also there were the scheduled league matches, which had to be cancelled. More importantly, as captains, they had hoped to raise a great deal of money for their local charities.
Allan and Lin therefore both agreed to roll over their captaincy year to 2021, in the hope that things would be back to normal. So far, they have been disappointed. They will go down in history as the longest serving captains!
