Village Harmony resumes rehearsals on Monday 3rd September at 7.30pm in Sturton Village Hall after a well-earned August break. They finished their season with a ‘get together’ on Monday 23rd July, where they had a short practice followed by drinks, nibbles and plenty of nattering! Some members also attended the ‘Celebrate 1918’ event at Hayton on Saturday 21st July, where they joined in with the singing of some popular WWI tunes! Dressed as suffragettes in long skirts, high necked blouses, and proudly sporting ‘Votes for Women’ badges, placards and sashes, they sang along to ‘Pack up your troubles’ ‘Down at the Old Bull and Bush’ and many other popular songs of the time.
In September the choir will be making a start on new music for their 2019 season, so this will be the perfect time to join. They provide all the music, plus a uniform, and new members get several weeks ‘free gratis’. This gives them gives plenty of time to settle in and see if Village Harmony is ‘for them’ before the decision is made to join or not. From October onwards, members concentrate on their Christmas programme, so they will be rehearsing lots of beautiful sacred music as well as lots of popular secular songs. Their first concert of the new season is at St Paul’s Church Morton, near Gainsborough, and this will be a Christmas concert. So far, the choir has four Christmas concerts lined up, including a joint one with Worksop Miners Welfare Brass Band. They did this last year for the first time and it proved so popular that they have agreed to do it again!
