Aurora Wellbeing Centre Bassetlaw

by | 13 September 2020 | Local Charity

The Aurora Centre is your local cancer charity based in the Old Library Building, Worksop. They are currently working within Government guidelines and social distancing rules. They are very fortunate to have a large building in which to utilise the space so that volunteers and customers can feel safe and confident when visiting them.

Al Fresco Afternoon Tea in the Park
We were blessed with good weather last month when Aurora hosted an afternoon tea in the park. Old friends and new friends socialised (at a suitable distance, of course) on the terrace behind the Old Library Building looking out over the Canch and gardens – there were even glasses of Prosecco spied on some tables!

Heritage & health project
The centre might have been closed but they have been busy working behind the scenes to move forward on this fantastic project. The Old Library Building is set to be transformed to its former glory thanks to a £1.56m Heritage Fund grant and they will begin work very soon on an ambitious plan to regenerate this key historic Grade II listed building.
The project will create a dedicated heritage area at the centre, including physical displays and an innovative virtual museum to tell the story of the Old Library and Museum throughout the decades. Aurora’s aim is to engage people living with cancer and their families with heritage to support their wellbeing. This includes an innovative new activities programme, giving people an opportunity to connect with the history of Worksop. Keep up to date with the latest activities, visit www.aurorawellbeing.org.uk/worksop/heritage-health.

Beauty therapy
They have a limited range of beauty treatments on offer and welcome back loyal clients and new clients too. Initially they will be able to offer nail treatments, manicures, pedicures and back massages adhering to strict Government guidelines and using all necessary PPE. For further information on opening times, prices or to make a booking please call 07503 612084.

Aurora services
These have been trying times for all of us but particularly for those who have had the added worry and stress of being diagnosed with cancer or having treatment during this period. Aurora continues to offer telephone-based support and services to people and their families affected by cancer or long term health conditions via telephone, Monday to Friday from 10.00am to 4.00pm on 01909 470985.
Aurora is continuing to offer a range of support services whilst the centre remains closed, and they continue to share information and advice and arrange counselling and bereavement support. Their support groups have moved online, along with Aurora courses and some exercise classes.

Tai Chi in the Park
What better place than the beautiful Memorial Gardens to learn Tai Chi? Enjoy gentle movements, deep breathing and relaxation in the open air, outside looking over the Canch in relative privacy behind the Old Library Building. They will be having socially distanced sessions in the park over the next few weeks. For more information call 01909 470985.

Pre-Loved Charity Shop
Aurora’s Pre-Loved Charity Shop is open Monday to Friday, from 10.00am to 2.00pm. They have a fantastic selection of good quality clothes, children’s toys and a second hand book collection. Their volunteers have been busy making hand-crafted quality re-usable facemasks and these are available to buy from the shop. They welcome donations but are unable to accept electrical items or large items of furniture, unfortunately.

Valerie’s Tearooms
They are currently operating a take away service from Aurora’s much loved Valerie’s Tearooms, Monday to Friday from 10.00am to 2.00pm.
