TED WATERFIELD MEMORIAL GOLF TOURNAMENT
A cloudy yet fine day on in July saw 38 teams competing in the annual Ted Waterfield Memorial Golf Tournament at Retford Golf Club. The event, now in its second year, benefited from sponsorship by local businesses for each hole, with funds raised going to Bassetlaw Hospice. A presentation evening was hosted by Retford Golf Club vice president Alan Meacher, who presented prizes, together with Lion president John Collins.
Various activities such as a putting competition and a prize draw together helped to boost funds to a substantial amount for the cause.

LIONS PEACE POSTER WINNER
For over three decades, Lions clubs around the globe have been sponsoring a very special art contest in schools and youth groups. Creating peace posters gives children everywhere the chance to express their visions of peace and inspire the world through art and creativity. Local primary schools are invited to take part to produce a poster themed on peace and togetherness in the world. This year the competition was won by James Gasgoine a pupil of Thrumpton School. James’ poster design will go forward to the regional finals.
SAILING DAY FOR LOCAL SCHOOLCHILDREN
Thirty children from Thrumpton Primary Academy enjoyed a day on the water at Daneshill Sailing Club recently, thanks to Retford Lions. Most of them had never been in a sailing boat before and it was something new for them, however they all rose to the challenge and had a great time.
