Retford Inner Wheel Club

Recently, the Inner Wheel Club of Retford were able see their efforts of the lockdown months delivered to the National Police Aid Convoy (NPAC), ready for filling the container due for Malawi in Africa, departing in November. The donations consisted of six bags of clothing for boys and girls aged from two to four years, gathered from grandchildren and elsewhere, as well as newly sewn, knitted or crocheted items numbering 60 cot sheets, 50 small and large baby blankets, 50 baby hats and 50 toddler hats, 50 baby sets and 50 pairs of bootees. During lockdown members’ hands were busy while watching TV.

The club’s simple raffle raised £50.00 for their chosen charities. They will also be making a delivery to Intercare soon, if guidelines allow, and a fundraising quiz will add funds to their charity account. They have plans to make children’s needs their priority in December.

The Retford club’s achievements are only a tiny part of what Inner Wheel achieves, through its 110,000 members in 103 countries. Inner Wheel is not just about knitting and sewing. It is very active in recognising the need for personal service in many different ways and it supports very many charities worldwide.

Normally, the club would be thinking about themes for their Christmas tree and star display at this time, lovely aspects of the Christmas season in our town, but sadly not this year. However, their constant thanks for support and heartfelt good wishes go to everyone. May you all have a happy, healthy and peaceful Christmas and may your families stay safe and well as this very unusual year comes to an end.
