Inner Wheel Club of Retford

At their last meeting, Inner Wheel members from Retford and Worksop heard from speaker Jenny Blizard from Blizard Physiotherapy in Bircotes. She was supported by Kate, her colleague. In their daily work they deal with all aspects of physiotherapy needs, sports injuries, post-operative exercise and massage as well as general health and wellbeing, nutrition and living a healthy lifestyle. At this presentation, they spoke about women’s health in particular, the pelvic floor, diet and exercise.

The Inner Wheel Club of Retford’s recent Baby Bundle preparation day saw new members joining in and, after a lovely lunch of lasagne and apple crumble, they set to work with the putting together of 14 ‘Joy’ and 28 ‘Toy’ bags and a total of 30 ‘Baby Bundles’. Along with those, four bags of other clothing items for three to six-year olds were prepared. These were immediately delivered to NPAC (National Police Aid Convoys) who transport them to Africa and their final destinations. Once again, the club is extremely grateful to all the knitters who keep up a supply of items and blankets. They can never have too many and members thank those who knit and crochet for the babies.

An invitation from Ilkley Inner Wheel was issued and two of Retford’s members joined a group invited to Bradford Town Hall for the Lord Mayor’s Appeal Lunch to mark the Centenary of Voting Rights for Women. This was a most interesting occasion and it is good for clubs in Inner Wheel to share activities. We all have the same objectives, but it is not all about work. It is also very much about sharing friendship.

The final amount raised for the Canine Partner Appeal was over £200.00. This charity does marvellous work to train puppies to assist people handicapped by injury. Last year, the club sponsored four pups and it looks like they will achieve their aim to do the same this year.

The club’s AGM takes place soon and members look forward to the continuation of their club. All new members are very welcome. They meet at the Ye Olde Bell Hotel, Barnby Moor at 5.30pm for 6.00pm every second Thursday of the month, where members enjoy a meal together for £13.00 and plan their activities and, most importantly, chat and share friendship. If you think you would like to try the club out just let the hotel know the day before.
