Inner Wheel Club of Retford members, along with friends and partner’s attended the coffee morning organised by Jan and raised £350 for Jessie’s Fund. This will be match funded, as promised at conference, by a wealthy supporter of the charity.
Members also agreed a donation of £300 towards the hurricane disaster in the Bahamas. To further assist with this, they are also collecting hand towels to donate to Aqua Box, the Rotary charity, to send out with water filters to the disaster area.
A number of members also attended the monthly meeting of the Warsop IW Club. This is part of the plan to share ideas, supporting other club activities and of working together in friendship.
A very pleasant social evening was enjoyed by other members and partners at Thornock Park, attending an Adele Tribute evening in Gainsborough where they had a carvery meal and were greatly entertained. A donation from the evening was made to club funds.
As you may know, the club send out Toy and Joy bags to Africa. Using some fleece material, items are able to be made with the minimum amount of sewing. A busy day was spent at the home of Elizabeth Withers, making and putting together many different items such as scarves, hats, sewing kits, pencil cases and more.
The group continue to work together in this ever-changing world and are continually inspired by the efforts of others. Recently, the international president, Phyllis Charter, quoted the words of St Francis of Assisi: “Start by doing what is necessary, then do what is possible and suddenly you are doing the impossible”. The group are always happy to welcome new members. Please visit www.innerwheelofretford.co.uk or email retfordinnerwheel@gmail.com.
